Life Lesson #4 You’ve Got It All

The amazing thing about love is that it is the best way to get to know ourselves.
-Rollo May

Ever notice that when something doesn’t go the way you want it to, or that when you hit a “bad” patch, how easy it is to focus on absolutely everything that has ever gone “wrong” in your life? If things are tough for you right now, have you been spending time thinking about all the things you are not? All the things you don’t have? All the situations that just didn’t work out, all the “poor” choices you’ve made? How much time and energy have you spent beating yourself up, putting yourself down?

It’s extremely common for negativity make itself at home in our minds when life throws us a curve ball. When this happens it can be difficult to see all the positive things, all the possibilities. As hard as it might be to believe beauty doesn’t go away, we just get so wrapped up in the negativity it becomes hard to see beyond it, so it builds…and builds. We lose sight of who we are and all that we have accomplished. The lessons that we’ve learned and the successes that we’ve had are quickly forgotten and the only things that we recognize are those that we can use against ourselves. It’s almost as if we’re on a mission to “prove” all of the negative thought’s we’ve ever had.

Well if you’re in a tight spot and you find yourself doing any of these things, stop now. Stop right now. Open your eyes. Open your heart. Re-read all these lessons, start each day listening, reading or doing something positive. Read your Prosperity Journal…and if you haven’t created one then go back through all the exercises in this blog and create one. Change your view, find the beauty, appreciate and enjoy it. Remind yourself of everything and everything you have that you are grateful for and give thanks…and if you think you have nothing to be grateful for, look around you, who or what would you miss if it wasn’t there? Doing so might just remind you of who you are and what’s important to you. Doing so might just open up your eyes and help you see the ‘wide screen” version of your life. Once you do you no longer blind yourself to the possibilities. Your intuition kicks in and the effects of the negativity lessen.

What we need to achieve our dreams we have, we only need to believe in ourselves and draw upon it. We only need to stop telling ourselves what isn’t possible and start reminding ourselves what is.

Exercise 1

Who are you really? What qualities make up the real you? In your Prosperity Journal, take a moment to do a self-inventory. Ask a few people who know you well to list five or ten words describe you. This will help you get a clear picture. Do your best not to judge any qualities. If there are some that you can’t quite bear to embrace, ask yourself how this quality may serve you. What if being quirky turned out to be what people find most endearing about you?
