Life Lesson #5 Your Wealth Depends on You
Money never starts and idea; it’s the idea that starts the money.
-Mark Victor Hansen
As much as I love my job there are times when it’s hard to bite my tongue, be patient, and allow the client to discover that they know the answer. Yes there are times when I would love to just hand them a “to do” or “to don’t” list, but I know how empowering the experience is when they “get it”. So the best course of action, the only course of action for a good coach is to allow the session to unfold even when you know they know “it”.
When you coach someone you have to go into a session free of any predetermined answers. You have to be able to let go. No, it’s not always easy. You want them to succeed and pulling back until the preverbal light goes off, is at times like watching a really close football game; you want your team to win, you know they have the skills and the “know how”, but you’re on the edge of your seat because on any given day anything could happen.
Most of us can relate to how easy it can be to “see” the answer to someone else’s issue- and how difficult it is to see the same answer or any answer for ourselves…even when the circumstances are similar. So yes it’s hard to sit back and watch as people hold themselves back from achieving their goals, however in order for the answers they seek to be powerful they need to be willing and ready to let go of their negative habits, their excuses and allow the answers to flow. Once we “let go” and learn to allow our focus becomes aligned with our desires and what we need to do, where we need to be, and the decisions we need to make become clearer.
I remember having a conversation with a young man who was turned down for a promotion. He was so bent out of shape because he thought that he would have been a great manager. Truth be told he was an intelligent young man, but he wasn’t ready, he wasn’t mature, he had very little “work place smarts”. He complained all the time, never put in any more effort than he thought he needed to in order to get by, and he was always goofing off. The advice I gave him, or rather the comment I made was this; you need to behave like a manager and then you will receive the promotion. You don’t get the promotion and then start behaving like you’re a manager. By doing the behavior first you allow the opportunity for the promotion to come your way.
We all have desires, dreams, and goals but is your behavior allowing you to achieve them or keeping you stuck in your current situation?

Exercise 1
Today, allow things to unfold easily. If you catch yourself pushing a task through or trying to talk someone into giving you your way, stop. If you find yourself worrying about something turning out the way you want, stop. Breathe.
Allow the Universe to assist you. If a friend or colleague can take the load off you, ask. If you were the king or queen of the kingdom, how would you handle it? How easy are you willing to let it be? Practice ease today.
Beware: allowing yourself to receive may be addicting. We highly promote it.
